How did old school bodybuilders train?
Full-body workouts or an upper/lower split were common, with some bodybuilders training three times a week.
Basic compound movements like squats, deadlifts, and bench presses were staples, forming the core of many workout routines.
High-volume training with multiple sets and reps was common. Intensity techniques like drop sets and supersets were popular for muscle exhaustion.
Periodisation was less structured, with some bodybuilders maintaining relatively consistent training approaches throughout the year.
Gyms were less equipped with specialized machines, and bodybuilders relied more on free weights.
Nutrition was important, but there was less emphasis on detailed macronutrient ratios, and supplementation was not as advanced.
Cardio was often minimal, with some bodybuilders relying on activities like brisk walking or occasional jogging.
The main thing that bodybuilders of the past preached for success in the gym was mindset and hard work.
